The challenges of being a Psychic
You may wish you had the gift of being able to 'read' people and see into the future, but the life of a psychic is very very challenging indeed. There are so many positive aspects and yet there are so many negative aspects as well. This is why it is so important for myself especially to have boundaries when it comes to my work. For years I would allow others to use my talents out of my kindness until I found all that achieved was to totally drain myself. If you are heading into this type of work as a full time job, you may want to read below as to the other side of the life of a psychic.
The positive aspects to help other people on their journey and give hope and encouragement is such a blessing, it is what makes this work so worthwhile, but there are so many other aspects that happen in the life of a psychic that can be overwhelming or just plain tiring if let get out of hand.
Years ago I woke up to the fact that I don't give out my phone number. People have a habit of just ringing me up and having a really long conversation about how everything is going wrong in their life. They believe that a psychic is on call 24/7 to listen, that we don't have a life of our own and our job is to be there for everyone else. Wrong!!!
We have families that need tending to, we still do our own housework, we still do our own grocery shopping, looking after children and other businesses, as well as answering all the emails and messages that we receive on a daily basis.
I also understand that when someone sends me an email for a reading, they believe that they are the only person in the world with that problem. I totally understand that, when you are going through something it is dramatic to you, your emotions are all over the place and you are screaming out for help. I am compassionate to your flight and I understand, but you have to remember that I have received 25 emails from people all wanting urgent help. I am one person, I am not a computerised machine handing out generic answers, I take a great deal of time and tuning into your energetic space when I do a reading. It takes a lot out of me with using my brain. I can only get through about 5 readings a day without then getting brain burn out, so at night I like to relax with my children and watch some TV even though I can still hear the email and messages going off. I understand that people working during the day and weekdays only have time to contact me at night or on the weekends, so I end up answering messages at night and working on the weekends. I do work 7 days a week.
I don't turn my phone off at night, i have it next to my bed purely because I have children and when they are out, they may need me. I turn my phone down but can hear it beeping all night long. When I get up in the morning I will have 10 messages in my inbox, 10 emails, a few text messages. I will prioritise what needs dealing with first, what is urgent, what can wait. Some people are just messaging because they are lonely and want someone to chat to and I am accessible. I totally understand, I just need time to get through messages, I don't have an assistant, because this type of work can only be done by me. I can't go on a holiday and leave someone in the office to do readings. It is a specialised gift that you can't ask someone else to finish your work for you.
I think I am pretty good at getting back to people quickly. I reply to emails quickly and get readings back within a 1 to 3 day turnaround. I quite often get someone who will email me and say, "my problem is urgent, can you do my reading straight away?" in other words they are wanting to jump the queue. I often wonder if they do that if in a line up in real life, if they push past other people because they feel more important.
If I go to a party, I will always tell the host, don't tell people what I do for a job. Because the minute someone says "Vicki is a psychic" the rest of my night relaxing is ruined by people asking me, 'tell me something about myself?" Without wanting to be rude, I feel like saying, "so did you go to work today and not get paid?" I just have to politely say, "sorry I am not working tonight I am trying to have some relaxation time" but the questions will continue because this kind of stuff fascinates people. I know if i was introduced to a doctor at a party I certainly wouldn't start asking them to diagnose my health issues, but it seems to be different for a psychic.
Generally it works really well, 95% of people will buy a reading, receive the reading, send an email back with some clarification and then we both move on. I have stayed connected to many people, we aren't close friends, but I love keeping up with their stories and seeing how their lives are progressing, there is a healthy balance their of a client/friend relationship which is generally most people that I come in contact with. Then there are other ocassions where I do the reading and the client will continue to email and message me talking about everything that is happening in their life, or if they are wanting to ask me questions about how I got started or how do I deal with things, they want to form a close friendship with me, and as lovely as that sounds, I don't feel the need to form a close friendship with clients. They need a friendship from me so they can get continual free guidance, like having their own private spiritual counsellor on tap, I don't receive anything from them and that was a lesson I learnt the hard way. I can understand that if these people are someone who doesn't have many close friends in life or their family or friends wouldn't understand what they are going through, so they feel they can reach out to me, but when it becomes messages or emails every day and night, I have to draw the line. I used to willingly give so much of my time to people and I got nothing in return. So the boundaries had to be laid, I am not being rude to you if i don't form a close friendship with you, I am protecting my energy and my space and my time. So please don't be offended if this happens to you. I will answer people when I can and if I can but when I start to feel that you are taking my time for your own needs, I will put a stop to it. If you need to discuss your life because you are lonely, join facebook groups, join online groups that like to talk to one another about problems.
Something else that happens for myself and other healers and psychics is when we are trying to sleep and we are being given messages by our guides or higher beings, so we are woken up several times at night to write things down, these maybe messages for ourselves or for others. I know one lady who clears demons from people's energies and she has a barrage of spirits in her house showing up at all hours disturbing whatever she is doing until she listens to them and then clears some energy around the issue. She doesn't get any payment for this cos spirits aren't going to pay her any money for her service are they? The amount of work that goes on behind the scenes with a psychic or healer would blow your mind. You are being healed by these types of people all the time and you are totally unaware of the fact that it is even happening until a few days later when you suddenly start to feel better or something shifts within you. There was an energy healer or psychic behind that healing who was doing the work, silently and quietly as a light worker who got no recognition and no thanks just so that your energy could be cleared.
Psychics also have to deal with people who want to label us as 'devil workers' or "if a true psychic would never charge money for their gift". I don't bag religion, i don't go onto the pages of people who have their beliefs and ridicule them, to me it is hypocritical. I also don't know how we are supposed to feed our children or live if we work for nothing. I guess they believe if I do a good psychic deed for nothing, that a bag of groceries will land on my kitchen table from the heavens. I have been able to give people a lot of medical advice that a doctor has been struggling to diagnose or they have missed something and yet through my mediumship the guides will show me where the problem is. I can receive a fee of $50 for doing hours and hours of medical work with someone, the doctor gets $1,000 of dollars and missed the problem. Same as a lawyer, I have been able to see the outcome of some legal cases and I receive nothing and the lawyer gets $1,000's. I have also worked on several ocassions with the police department and with families of missing people, giving up hours and hours and hours of my time to help for no payment, yet I don't advertise this, I don't brag about this and I don't discuss these details with anyone. I have also had many ocassions where i have helped someone who was thinking of taking their life and my guidance has saved a life. I am not a trained psychologist or counsellor, I am just a psychic yet I am called upon to perform all these jobs at any hour of the day and for no fee.
So that may have opened your eyes a bit more to what the life of a psychic is really like. And although it sounds like a rant blog, I wrote it more to make you aware of what we have to deal with on a day to day basis. Sometimes there is this concept that we floating around in some la la land sprinkling fairy dust on our path, but I can tell you I have had many jobs in my past but the psychic work takes more out of me mentally and physically than any other job. Just like people who work in retail have to deal with rude customers and people who deal with demanding bosses and timelines and needing to get everything done with no help, or nurses who have grumpy patients and night shifts and are tired and parents who are working two jobs to try and get ahead financially in this world. With all jobs there are demanding issues, I was just trying to enlighten you to what it is like for the life of a psychic.
